It is thought that glaucoma affects around 4% of the world’s population and that around half of the cases worldwide progress without diagnosis. By 2010 estimates show that over 60 million individuals may suffer from some form of this condition. This is not a problem that is getting any better. World Glaucoma Week was set up to help promote this problem.

Sometimes, we forget how lucky we are in developed countries and forget how hard it is for people who live in places with fewer resources. Even so, it is still common for people in countries like ours to develop this condition without realising what it is. Getting an early diagnosis could be important here and this week will hopefully help educate us to know what the warning signs are as well.
